Kenshi Sudo built his foundation in cinematic lighting under the mentorship of Hiroyuki Ota, the lighting director of the acclaimed drama silent. Ota’s philosophy—emphasizing the texture of light, nuanced shadows, and the emotional interplay between illumination and cinematography—remains a core influence on Kenshi’s approach today.

During his time as a lighting board operator, Kenshi worked on a commercial project shot by Hoyte van Hoytema, the Academy Award–winning cinematographer known for Christopher Nolan’s films. The experience allowed him to engage directly with world-class cinematographic lighting and broadened his visual and technical sensitivity.

For more than a decade, even prior to establishing his independent practice, Kenshi has also created large-scale lighting for major music festivals and illuminated historic sites including Tōdai-ji Temple in Nara, consistently delivering immersive lighting experiences that shape audience perception and emotion.

Off set, he loves cats. His own is a five-year-old mixed-breed.
