照明技師 / ライティングディレクター / ガッファー。
キャリアのスタートは話題となったドラマ『silent』の照明監督・太田宏幸氏のもとで、光と影の微細なニュアンスや映像との融合を学んだことに始まる。そこで培った光の質感や陰影、そして視覚的・感情的な照明技法は、現在の活動の大きな基盤となっている。


その後、野田真基氏や永井左紋氏といった一流の照明技師の現場でチーフとして経験を重ね、照明演出にとどまらず、現場を円滑に進行させるディレクション力とリーダーシップを養った。2023年1月1日に独立後は、CM、ミュージックビデオ、Web映像といった映像作品のほか、インスタレーション、アート作品の制作にも携わり、多様なプロジェクトで活躍している。


大型フェス「カウントダウンジャパン」では10年にわたり会場メインエントランスの空間照明を担当。
奈良県 東大寺「天平祭」や、関東三大イルミネーションに認定された江ノ島「湘南の宝石」のライトアップでは、歴史的空間に現代の感性を掛け合わせた照明演出で注目を集める。


そして、仕事と同じくらい大切にしているのが愛猫の存在。どんなに多忙でも、帰宅後に猫と過ごす時間が最高の癒しとなり、日々のインスピレーションの源にもなっている。スマホの待ち受けももちろん愛猫。ライティングディレクターであり、猫を愛する人間として、そのバランスの中で光の可能性を追求し続けている。

Sudo Kenshi – Lighting Director / Gaffer

 
A lighting director who brings life to images and spaces through the expressive power of light.
His career began under renowned lighting director Hiroyuki Ota on the acclaimed TV drama silent, where he learned the delicate nuances of light and shadow and how they merge with the visual narrative. The sensibilities and techniques he developed there—especially in the texture of light and emotional lighting—form the foundation of his current work.
 


He later worked as chief lighting technician under top professionals such as Masaki Noda and Samon Nagai, gaining not only expertise in lighting direction but also leadership and the ability to coordinate complex productions with precision.
Since becoming independent on January 1, 2023, his work has spanned a wide range of fields, including commercials, music videos, and digital content, as well as art installations, large-scale festivals, historic site illuminations, and collaborative art projects.
 


He has contributed lighting design to music videos for artists such as Kenshi Yonezu, Naotaro Moriyama, and Momoiro Clover Z.
For over a decade, he has been responsible for venue lighting design at major festivals like ROCK IN JAPAN and COUNTDOWN JAPAN.
He also led the illumination of culturally significant sites such as Todaiji Temple's Tenpyo Festival in Nara and Shonan no Hoseki in Enoshima—one of Japan's top three winter illumination events—where he fused historical ambiance with contemporary sensibility to wide acclaim.
His ability to deliver inventive ideas under tight constraints has earned him increasing recognition, not only from cinematographers but also from producers, directors, and ad agencies who now request him by name.
 


And just as important as his work is the presence of his beloved cat.
No matter how busy the schedule, time spent at home with his cat is his greatest comfort—and often his source of inspiration. His phone wallpaper, of course, features his feline companion.
As a lighting director and a devoted cat lover, he continues to explore the possibilities of light, balanced between precision and affection.
